Rebecca and Nathan celebrated their wedding during the height of our Okanagan fire season. I recall Rebecca’s mom looking distressed when I showed up in the morning. She appeared sad, and asked if the smoke would ruin the photos. I told her that, on the contrary, it was going to be beautiful. I’ll admit, it was a bit tough breathing in all that smoke all day long, but in the end, the images have a quality to them you can’t get in photoshop.
Rebecca was lucky that her grandparents lived so close to Gellatly Nut Farm; it’s almost like they had this huge back yard full of beautiful tall trees all to themselves, except for all those other people. It truly was a wonderful place. A place Rebecca created many treasured memories growing up. Sadly, this was to be the last summer she would get to spend at her grandparents home; they had sold it to another couple and would be moving out soon after the wedding. A bitter-sweet time for the whole family, but what a way to celebrate the end of an era, with the beginning of a new one.
