A marriage proposal can be a private affair, or it can be the third act in a musical set in a public square, with a flash mob calling attention to it all. Eric wanted private though. An intimate moment with as few distractions as possible. He planned a romantic little picnic atop a snow-capped mountain. Only one problem; Melanie is pregnant. So hiking wasn’t going to be an option. Solution – hire a helicopter – of course.
Now, Melanie just happens to be really good friends with Sheri-Lee Turner-Krouzel, who happens to be the proprietor of 50th Parallel Estate Winery just north of Kelowna. Anyone who knows Sheri-Lee, knows that if she gets an idea in her head, she’ll do what she needs to, to see it to fruition, and bigger than life.
Sheri-Lee helped Eric arrange the helicopter ride, and she called me the night before it was going to happen. I listened to her idea, and before she finished, I told her I was in. Of course, I had to play the co-pilot so Melanie wouldn’t suspect anything.
I don’t think I fooled her for very long.It was colder than Eric thought it would be, so he decided to forego the picnic, and pretty much popped the question right away. I managed to capture this from inside the helicopter. And yes, that’s non alcoholic bubbly. Okay Neil, hurry – my hands are feakin’ cold! The cold and wind were too much to take, so it was time to take off. It was short and oh-so-sweet!Back at 50th Parallel Sheri-Lee and Curtis greeted the helicopter as Santa and Mrs. (hot) Claus. We all warmed up with a glass of their Unparalleled Pinot Noir – except for Melanie, of course. Too bad, ’cause it was awesome!!This will be for after you have your baby Melanie. It will be worth the wait! Great things are coming your way guys. Congratulations to you both. I wish you all the best!! ~ Neil.
