Janelle and Josh originally planned on doing their photo session at the outdoor skating rink in Kelowna, but they were worried it might be too busy. I suggested we could do their engagement session at Big White Ski Resort instead. Even though there might be a lot of people, the skating pond was big, so finding a quiet corner should be easy. As it happens, it wasn’t busy at all. This turned out for the best, as I think Josh was more comfortable without many people around.
Oddly enough, Big White wasn’t as crowded as usual. The village in particular is not a location I can photograph a couple in complete isolation. However, we managed to capture a window of opportunity where there were no people in view. If you know Big White at all, you’ll know this is a fluke.
Winter Photo Sessions
Winter photo sessions can be cold. Obviously. Being practical while also being fashionable, is not always easy to achieve. However, Josh looked great in his tan cashmere coat. Janelle however, opted for no coat. Didn’t want to ruin the look. Of course this gave Josh plenty of reason to wrap his arms around Janelle to keep her warm.
Ice Skating
The skating rink at Big White isn’t really a rink, but rather, a man-made pond. As a photographer, I like it because it lends that natural vibe if you use the trees as a backdrop. Josh had requested that I get some photos of him in his hockey jersey. Janelle didn’t bring a coat or skates, so she just stood on the ice looking beautiful while Josh skated circles around her.
