Wedding Photography in Vancouver

Shooting a Cecil Green Park House wedding has always been a professional bucket-list item of mine. In September of 2017 I finally got to check it off with the wedding of Issy and Patrick.
The first time they contacted me, I was living in Kelowna, and they were living in Edmonton. Despite there being hundreds of Vancouver wedding photographers from which to choose, Issy contacted me after seeing a wedding I photographed at The Harvest Golf Club in Kelowna. In her initial email to me, Issy talked about this particular image of Marlee, the bride, and how it seemed to “speak” to her (Issy). You can see the featured post of Marlee and Trevor’s wedding here.

Scouting a New Location

One of Issy’s first concerns was whether or not I would photograph her wedding in Vancouver since I was in Kelowna. And had I ever photographed a wedding at Cecil Green park House? Before I responded to her email, I was looking it up on line and planning a trip to Vancouver to check out this beautiful venue for myself.
Whenever possible, I scout a new location in order to see what the light will be doing at certain times of the day. I try to visualize how the formal portrait session will play out; where the best locations will be for the couple, and the best spots from which to photograph them.
I took many snapshots during my scouting trip to Cecil Green Park House. A timeline based on my travel times to and from locations throughout Vancouver, came in handy on the wedding day.
Issy told me later on that my images got her interested, but it was the fact that I was willing to travel, and do all that leg-work, that clinched it for her. She left a beautiful review for me, which you can read here.

Why I like this image:
During my scouting trip to Cecil Green Park House, I was walking down a path from the parking lot and came upon this amazing view. Instantly I knew that I was going to find a way to put Issy and Patrick on that balcony. It was Spring when I first scouted this location, and it was beautiful then, but in September it was just as beautiful and the sun was in a better position. They were lucky the timing, weather and light all worked out the way it did.
